I’ve been distracted by a myriad of tasks and executing them with extreme prejudice when the weather capitulates. I’ve thought at length about my writing and often desire to be composing, immersed in the fantastic world of – Wow, I just had to run away from the computer because the tankless, on-demand water heater that runs our bathroom and laundry had a pipe burst (In retrospect, I probably should’ve had a different plumber look at it after the first one rigged this up).
I ran down stairs and shut the water off as Misty (my beautiful wife) was moving things away from the gushing water. After dealing with that crisis, I got distracted by some other tasks before I wandered back upstairs to the office. Normally I don’t work/write here but I installed an outlet in the attic and connected the Romex into the junction box, behind the wall in the attic for a second outlet that I had already wired in the office yesterday. As I was getting some admin stuff done this afternoon, Ben, Misty’s brother dropped by to say that he was going to pick up a guinea hen that I agreed to take from his friend. Not knowing the pickup would be today, I had to scramble out to the area we started prepping for the guinea keets we purchased a few weeks ago and adapt it to the one year old hen we were getting today.
There’s never been a post where I introduced myself, talked about me, or let you into my life. Some of you may have read the “about” page on the website and gotten a brief snapshot of Drew & family but that’s more speed dating than an introduction. I think I would lose your attention by the time I wrote all that leads up to who I am now so I’ll just stay in the present and in future posts describe the mechanics of my mind, the motivation of my feelings, and my passion for life.
We live in a 1700’s stone farmhouse on 8 acres in PA just west of Philly. There’s never a lack of work to be completed, just a lack of energy, money, or motivation to do it. We completed SO much in the first several years of owning the house that I’m partially burned out on the whole thing, much to the wife’s chagrin.
Developing the land here could be a full time job. Currently, I’m trying to lay down mulch/wood chips around the playground that I’m building the kids. The other side of the wooded area I’m trying to clear the bramble and make a natural food plot for deer in the shade of the trees where I can shoot them from the playground/tree stand. The meat feeds the family, the dog, the birds, and we use the hide.
There are too many projects started but not completed and I’d be embarrassed to list them all. I feel like I chase squirrels all day.
I’ve been building a welding table from scrap metal collected from 4 properties in two different states.
We cleaned out the shed and used scrap wood from the attic in the house (which was previously inhabited by bats) to make a sturdy floor to reorganize/consolidate.
Because I cleaned out the basement we had space to build a “cabinet” out of wood from a shelf in the garage I dismantled to house my son, Canaan’s science project of peppers and testing growth with different water sources.
You can see the chicks and keets are still in the basement because nighttime temps are still too low for them outside and we had to put walls around the LED grow light because it was WAY too bright otherwise.
We’ve been busy in this “time of COVID” and these are just some highlights. I’ve spent a significant amount of time on getting the garage more functional but that cluster shall not be photographed, it’s a LONG way from being done.
Daily life plus getting the kids to work through their online school work and keep them away from Misty who’s studying and taking law finals from home, and ….
When I’m done posting this I’ll work on the upcoming series and maybe get to Prisoner of The Mind.
