Don’t worry and focus on the right things. Easy to say but hard to do. Being a victim of your own thoughts only helps that downward spiral- like we trained our bodies and minds for war we must now reprogram. I know that a majority of people in the world do not have hostile intent. That being said, as I walk out my door they all look like they do. How do we bridge the gap between what we know and what we feel- what IS and what is perceived?
Perception is NOT reality
Perception is your interpretation of reality. It’s this perception we must break free of. I’m guilty of feeling trapped, alone, hopeless, and that this world is only out to get me. To a certain extent the world is out to get you- get you to believe how they do, get you to do what they want, buy what they want; people want to drag you down to their level… the world is what it is.
We don’t need to worry about what others think or what they want us to do. While others were enjoying the easy life, warriors took the hard road- it’s what we do. Follow the higher calling.
The mission requires us to stare deeply into the commander’s intent: to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength AND to love our neighbor (the world) as our self. That’s a suicide mission- it came to me the other day that Jesus knew He was on a suicide mission before he came out here, and accepted orders anyway.
In WW I, Dan Daily , an enlisted Marine at the Battle of Belleau Wood , yelled “Come on you sons of bitches, do you want to live forever?” Then he led a charge into heavily entrenched German territory. From a spiritual perspective we do want to live forever but it will come from losing ourselves to the cause. Give up your foothold here on earth to gain the high ground in heaven.
So, what then do we do? Focus on the mission- push the other foolishness out of our minds. Avoid all of these hot button issues; the information we are getting is skewed from every side. Getting involved in an argument over something we aren’t even a part of is a rabbit trail we can’t afford to get lost on, yet we do it all the time on social media.
Do the Right Thing
Do the right thing; it’s hard, but we know how to do hard things. In that same vein, as the Marine’s Hymn says, “Keep our honor clean”- keep your reputation so that others can see why you do the hard things and praise God for your good works rather than you. What we subject our minds to has an effect on how we think- so put the right stuff in there. It will make it easier to stay focused.
You’re alive for a reason. You may not know why but really, that’s irrelevant. You’ve been given a gift, one that requires you to seek its purpose. Serve others and be thankful. In everything give thanks.
Over.
Philippians 4:6-8
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
