I set a timer and have given myself five minutes to write.
I’ve heard it said that five minutes toward your goal is infinitely better than nothing. Right now I’m applying that. I’ve been a content creator since my early childhood. From spontaneous songs like “Meatloaf on the floor” to poems, music, terribly drawn sketches, I’ve had a desire to be creative.
This didn’t translate well in the Marine Corps. Not all creativity is shunned in the Corps but honestly, most is. It’s been years that I’ve been trying to reclaim the creative part of me, post Marines. I’m making greater steps each day.
I wish this was longer than 5 but getting to the point for me is sometimes a struggle. It’s the journey TO the point that is often the greatest for a writer, which I now aspire to be. I like to build things with my hands but this attic project… sigh, here I go back to work- the timer just went off.

December 16, 2022 14:07Gosh, am I the first? Well, I did know a nurse who was both Army and Air Force who told great war stories about red socks inside her boots. I had a beautiful, petite African-American WAF major personnel officer across the hall from me who would unbutton her uniform jacket and blouse to reveal the loveliest colored lace underwear. Our underwear is boring just now. In the 1960’s Vanity Fair offered a rainbow, like coral, pale mint green, sapphire blue. . . Creativity isn’t a “KISS THE COOK” thing hanging in the kitchen that nobody still laughs at that someone embroidered decades ago from a silly kit! Creativity was the red wool heart patch and trailing flowering vine I put on a favorite pair of slacks ruined at the skating rink when the fat kid fell in front of me. I was 14 and loved those beautiful grown-up very nice slacks. Creativity is how we manage our lives and make them a bit happier and more enjoyable (bearable?). Creativity was Major Pickard (USAF, at Torrejon, Spain) presenting the smelly Spanish janitor a towel, a bar of soap and deodorant so he could shower just down the hall “because you work hard”)! [Most Spaniards are as clean as they can possibly manage; however many Europeans did not use deodorant.] I think we all better be creative just to manage our lives. Sheesh! We have to study, pray and stand on our heads to find all the insights and work-arounds we need in these interesting times. Like the green-eyed Scarlet O’Hara in Gone With The Wind. She was desperate, so she made a fetching dress from the green velvet curtains! When the dentist had me pay with Care Credit and THEY moved my due date (no, I’m not preggers!), I paid their damned minimum on their due date. It took some belt tightening to do this. And then on my payday, I’ll pay the hundreds more in order to be finished and interest-free ASAP. Thus, a little “whee” in bill-paying. Now my time is up. Love and happy holiday wishes!
